upload artwork

Nimlok Online strongly suggests that you receive hard copy proofs of your artwork if color matching is critical as electronic proofs are not an accurate representation of color or resolution. To guarantee your company’s colors are matched perfectly, pantone colors must be provided or client supplied graphics such as brochures, business cards or previously printed graphics must be sent in to guarantee color output. All files that require color matching must be editable layered files.

Please click the "Add File" button to add a file to your upload queue. Once you have selected all of your files, click the "Submit" button to begin your upload

A Nimlok Online representative will be notified when the upload is complete. Please do NOT close this window until all uploads have been completed.

acceptable file formats & adobe creative suite overview

adobe-illustrator

Illustrator: An illustration program used for print, multimedia and online graphics. Can create vector-based graphics that can be scaled up without losing clarity. It also allows us to color match these elements quickly since they are fully editable. Raster-based images and Photoshop elements can also be placed into an Illustrator file.

Most preferred file formats: High Quality Editable PDF, AI, EPS

adobe-photoshop

Photoshop: A raster-based program mainly used to edit photos/images. Can create raster-based (bitmap) graphics that are composed of pixels arranged in a grid. Raster graphics can typically be scaled down with no loss of quality but enlarging a bitmap image causes it to look blocky and pixelated.

Preferred file formats: High Quality Editable PDF, JPG, TIFF, PSD

adobe-indesign

InDesign: A program mainly used for page layout, catalogs and brochures. It is not intended or recommended for grand format printing. It has similar capabilities as Illustrator but more restrictions on page scale. It also has some undesired outcomes when exporting files for print.

File formats (accepted but not preferred): INDD

color specifications

All of the printers used at Nimlok Online are CMYK-based printers. This means that we print your graphic using Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black colored inks, otherwise known as Process colors.

We guarantee color matching on all orders with requested hard copy proofs, when Pantone colors are specified or when we receive client-supplied graphics for color matching. Orders without requested hard copy proofs, without indication of Pantone colors, or client supplied graphics or color matching are not guaranteed for color.

Please supply all vector files (Illustrator and InDesign) in CMYK format and all raster artwork (Photoshop files, jpgs, tiffs) in RGB format for the most accurate color output.

Please note:

  • Files sent in without color matching instructions will print as is.
  • Color output will vary from what you see on your screen due to our printer profiling, substrates and inks.
  • If color matching is critical, a color swatch can be sent in for color matching. Please refer to the Client Supplied Graphics section for more information

color matching

We work to make sure that you get exactly what you want when you order through Nimlok Online. If you want to ensure that colors on your newly purchased display match something else exactly – like a complementing table cloth or a company logo – provide us with a Pantone Color, send in a color swatch for us to match to or request hard copy proofs to make sure the color is just right.

If You Have Pantone Colors

  • All critical colors must be called out in the file as Solid Coated Pantone swatches.
  • Do not convert to CMYK. Keeping the Pantone swatch intact in the file allows us to quickly identify where critical color matching is needed.
  • Our preflight team will then take these colors and match the Pantone book swatches to the exact material of your printed graphic, ensuring the closest match achievable.

Client Supplied Graphics for Color Matching

Want to make sure the color of your logo on your banner stand exactly matches the color of the logo on a brochure? No problem! Send us a sample of the graphic color output that you are looking to achieve and we can color match as close as possible. Client-supplied graphic samples can be anything from a previously printed banner stand graphic to a brochure or folder.

In order for us to color match, we ask that you send us the following:

  • All files that require color matching in editable layered files.
  • All support artwork, such as linked images and any and all fonts

While not required, we do strongly suggest that you receive hard copy proofs of your artwork if color matches are critical to make sure you are completely satisfied with our color matching. See proofing process.

support artwork

We ask that all support artwork be packaged with your final print file to ensure proper file output. This refers to all font files and linked image files. The shipping date may be compromised if these files are not supplied for graphics that require minor adjustments, design time or color matching prior to printing.

font requirements

Fonts: Traditionally defined as a specific typeface in a specific point size and style

  • Fonts must be sent with the print files since we do not have every font option in our database.
  • If you do not require changes to your text during preflight, fonts may be created to outlines to keep in tact (see example below)

Fonts

linked images:

These refer to any images that are placed into an Illustrator or InDesign file. We will not be able to proceed with preflighting if one of these elements is missing. We also require these to be sent if we are color matching to an existing graphic. That way we can adjust the color in these images accordingly. Images can be embedded into the file if we are printing the file as is.

resolution

Resolution is the term used to describe the number of pixels used to display an image. Higher resolutions mean that more pixels are used to create the image, resulting in a crisper, clearer graphic.

PPI = Pixels per Inch: used when referring to the resolution of an image on screen.
DPI = Dots per Inch: used when referring to the resolution of a printed graphic or printer output.

resolution-examples

For best results, we recommend that all image files be sent at a resolution of 100 - 120 ppi at 100% print size for a crisper, clearer image output.

proofing process

e-proofs:

Nimlok Online will send free e-proofs for all graphic orders we process. E-proofs are sent in electronic jpg format. Please note:

  • E-proofs should be reviewed for layout purposes only
  • E-proofs are low-res and NOT representative of color output or resolution

hard copy proofs:

For a small fee, you may upgrade to receive a hard-copy proof to review layout, color and resolution. Hard copy proofs consist of a printed color layout and magnification test of the art file on the same material as the final product. Please note:

  • Hard copy proofs are a $44 flat fee and include Priority Overnight shipping.
  • Adding hard copy proofs to an order will add at least 2 days to the turn time of your order.

How to add hard copy proofs to your order

You will be given the option to add hard copy proofs to your order on the shopping cart page. A check box will appear as seen below.

turnaround times

Nimlok Online has some of the most competitive turnaround times in the industry. All production times listed below are based on final artwork proof approval. The quality of the artwork will affect the time it takes to prepare files for print.

  • 24 hours. The amount of time it takes for our team to preflight and proof regular orders once the order has been submitted.
  • 48 hours. The amount of time it takes for our team to preflight and proof large orders once the order has been submitted.
  • 12 p.m. CST. If a proof approval comes in before 12 p.m. CST, we’ll start production that day. If it comes after 12 p.m. CST, we’ll start on production first thing the next day.
  • Proofs. Electronic proofs are sent for all graphic jobs. Hard copy proofs are sent upon request with an additional charge.
  • Rush orders. We’ll do our best to get you what you need when you need it. Call us and talk to our customer service representatives to see if we can rush your order to meet your deadline. Additional charges may be applied.

graphics FAQ

Upon submitting an order, you will be prompted with our artwork uploading tool. A valid order number is required to submit artwork. This tool is accessible anytime on the artwork guidelines page. If artwork is not uploaded directly after placing an order, the estimated ship date may be pushed back.

Each product page contains an “instructions & graphic templates” tab containing the graphic template. All of our graphic templates can also be located on the artwork guidelines page.

The lead time for each product is listed under the “product specifications” tab. If print-ready artwork is not uploaded directly after submitting the order, the lead time may increase. Other factors that may cause the lead time to increase include large quantities, late proof approval, if graphic design services are requested, problems with artwork and hardcopy proofs.

With every graphics order, an electronic proof will be sent within 24-48 hours after art and order submission. If we notice any issues with the artwork such as low resolution, missing fonts or sizing issues you will be notified to correct the issue. This may push back the estimated ship date. Electronic jpg proofs are sent for layout purposes only. These are not representative of color output or resolution. We do not proceed with production until your final approval is received.

Nimlok Online strongly suggests that you receive hard copy proofs if color matches are critical. Hard copy proofs consist of a printed color layout and magnification test of the art file on the same material as the final product. These are used for client review of layout, color and resolution. Hard copy proofs are only sent if requested and will add a flat $44.00 fee and at least 2 days to the turn time of your order. The fee includes free priority overnight shipping.

A check box to request hard copy proofs is located on the shopping cart page of checkout. If this box is checked, you will be given the opportunity to provide a separate shipping address where the hard copy proofs will be sent. A $44 fee will be added to your order.

This is a printed area that goes beyond the visual graphic space. Typically this part of the graphic is trimmed, hemmed or not viewable when the display is set-up. Bleeding artwork beyond the graphic visual area ensures that there are no unprinted edges. Please see the corresponding graphic template for any specific bleed requirements.

A patented printing ink color matching system involving a range of over 3,000+ stock colors. All pantone color mixes are derived from 18 base colors. This system allows designers to color match specific colors when a design enters production stage. It is widely adopted by graphic designers, reproduction and printing houses. Calling out a pantone color helps to standardize colors in the CMYK printing process since CMYK color output tends to vary from printer to printer.

Pantone colors or client supplied graphics such as brochures, business cards or previously printed graphics must be sent in to guarantee color output. All files that require color matching must be editable layered files. We must also receive all of the support artwork (linked images and fonts) in case extensive color adjustments must be made. Nimlok Online strongly suggests that you receive hard copy proofs of your artwork if color matches are critical.

Yes, please make sure all images are 200-240 ppi if sending your art at 1/2 scale, 400-480 ppi if sending art at 1/4 scale, to ensure high resolution output.

We prefer to receive print-ready files placed in our templates. This ensures that all dimensions are correct and that all bleeds and obstructions have been taken into account.

Outlining fonts in Illustrator: Select all type, go to the type menu and select Create Outlines or type “shift command O.”

Outlining fonts in InDesign: Select all type, go to the type menu and select Create Outlines or type “shift command O.”

Nimlok Online suggests that all image files be sent at a resolution of 100 - 120 ppi at 100% print size for a crisper, clearer image output.

Dye-sublimation printing uses dispersed dye inks that are heated once printed or transferred to a fabric material. Heating the inks ensures proper ink bond to the fabric. This type of printing process is mainly used for Compact Image graphics as well as premium dye sublimation fabric banner graphics.

The solvent printing process employs durable and vibrant inks that promote strong adhesion and excellent longevity. With a robust resistance to fading and scratching, solvent printing is ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications. Solvent printing is an economical alternative for banner stand graphics.

UV printing cures the ink to the material that is being printed on with ultraviolet lights. This process creates a very durable and scratch resistant print. This type of printing is used on our compact pop-up mural graphics and supreme polyester film with gloss finish banner graphics.

DPI = Dots per inch: used when referring to the resolution of a printed graphic or printer output.

PPI = Pixels per Inch: used when referring to the resolution of an image on screen.

We prefer to receive all files as high resolution PDFs, AI, EPS, JPG, TIFF or PSD. We can receive INDD files but they are not preferred.

Low resolution PDFs, Corel Draw, Word, MSPaint, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, Keynote or Quark.
